Discovery of the Licancabur volcano
The Licancabur volcano (5916 m), the volcanic star of the South Lipez. Its silhouette is stick up in all the windows of travel agencies in Bolivia. It has indeed a great look with its perfect cone overlooking the Laguna Verde turquoise waters. It is located just south of the Lipez region, at the Chilean border that leads to the “village” of San Pedro de Atacama.
The Licancabur is frequented by people who love pysical efforts !! Indeed, it offers the joys of a ‘real’ ascension as we like : night start, difficult weather conditions (furious wind), high gradient …
You will need to address its flanks in a giant pierrier which does not depart from the classic “one step forward, three steps back” … but your efforts will be rewarded by discovering the small frozen lake nestled in the crater and above the stunning views of the Laguna Blanca, and well obviously the Laguna Verde. Have a great time there, because the descent will be just as exhausting as the rise … you’ve been warned!
